A Societal Moment or an Awakening?

Oftentimes when we encounter the questions behind the inequities in our society, the next is often, “How long will this last?” Unfortunately, history hasn’t given us a reason to trust things will truly change. 2020 was far too akin to the 1960s. So, to question if workplace environments will change, or conversations will continue, if representation really matters, and if we’ll continue to see changes in editorial and hiring practices all still remain to be unknown. Skepticism is a normal response. I’m hopeful the learnings from 2020 will not be in vain.

We do have the power to change our own lives and social circles. For LNQ Media, we made it a point to ensure diversity is a part of our DNA and not a response to a moment in society. It is built into the fabric of who we are as a team and it’s reflected throughout our storytelling. We all have work to do in our professional and personal lives to cultivate an environment of empathy. Curiosity is the starting point. When we set out to seek knowledge, understanding, and history we help build the bridge that connects us. The world is filled with so many people, backgrounds, cultures, stories and beliefs. As we find common ground, that bridge only gets stronger.

Our tiny bridges that link us to the people in our lives are so important. We may not be able to control how fast society catches up, but, we can control our daily decisions to proactively seek out people who are different from us and learn more about what makes up the fabric of their world. It’s our job to break down the echo chambers that permeate so much of social media and burst through the bubbles that can be so easy to live inside everyday. We look forward to sharing the stories of women from different walks of life. We seek this as an opportunity to help spark curiosity in others-- one story at a time. Our community is growing and the goal is to build tiny bridges that connect women all over the world. For each bridge is a connection leading towards change.

With love,
